Building the Bridge to Kindergarten

The year before kindergarten is an exciting one. Children are becoming more independent, asking bigger questions, developing deeper friendships, and becoming increasingly ready for new challenges.

Our Junior Kindergarten Programme bridges the space between preschool and formal schooling, giving children an opportunity to develop the confidence, communication, independence, and foundational learning skills that will help them make a successful transition to kindergarten. It offers the best of both worlds: the joy and exploration of early childhood combined with more intentional preparation for school.


What Makes Junior Kindergarten Different?

Junior Kindergarten builds upon the play-based foundation of preschool while introducing greater opportunities for purposeful learning, independence, routines, small-group instruction, and school readiness.

Children are still learning through play, movement, stories, conversations, art, music, exploration, and hands-on experiences, but educators become increasingly intentional about developing the skills children will use in kindergarten.

The goal isn't to turn preschoolers into elementary students. It's to help children become confident, capable learners who are ready for their next step.

Building Kindergarten Readiness

Being ready for kindergarten is about much more than knowing letters and numbers. Our Junior Kindergarten Programme supports development in:

  • Early literacy – phonological awareness, rhyming, sounds, letters, stories, print awareness, vocabulary, and early writing.
  • Early numeracy – counting, number sense, patterns, shapes, measurement, comparing, sorting, and problem-solving.
  • Language and communication – following directions, expressing ideas, asking questions, telling stories, participating in conversations, and advocating for needs.
  • Social development – developing friendships, collaborating, taking turns, negotiating, and solving problems with peers.
  • Emotional development – managing disappointment, developing flexibility, communicating feelings, and building resilience.

Preparing for School Without Rushing Childhood

We don't believe kindergarten readiness should mean worksheets, long periods of sitting, or pressure to achieve skills before children are developmentally ready. Young children still need to play, move, create, imagine, investigate, and wonder.

Our educators introduce early academic concepts through meaningful, developmentally appropriate experiences that encourage children to participate actively in their learning.

Confidence Before Kindergarten

One of the greatest gifts we can give a child before kindergarten is confidence.

That individual attention helps us prepare the child in front of us, rather than expecting every child to arrive at kindergarten in exactly the same place.
